A Home for Edwin and Lidia: A Gift of Hope and Stability
In the small village of El Rejón, Sumpango, a young family’s dream of having their own home is finally becoming a reality. Thanks to a generous donation from ICF Homes of VA, Edwin and Lidia’s family will receive their first-ever cinder block home—a place they can truly call their own.
Edwin, 22, and his wife Lidia, 25, live humble lives with their 4-year-old son, José. Life has been challenging for them. Edwin works as a mason’s helper, earning about $67 per week, while Lidia, a stay-at-home mom, sometimes works in farming for $9 a day. Together, they do everything they can to provide for their son and make the best of what little they have.
Until now, the family has lived in a small cinder block room that belongs to Lidia’s father. While grateful for the shelter, the space is not theirs. They have no proper kitchen—Lidia cooks under a simple tin roof, exposed to the elements. Edwin shared, “We would like to have our own home. For example, we would like to improve our kitchen, but we cannot because it doesn’t belong to us.”
That’s what makes this moment so significant. In honor of a recently completed project for their client, ICF Homes of VA stepped forward and donated toward the construction of a new home for Edwin, Lidia, and José. This gift not only provides a roof over their heads but also represents a fresh start for this young family—a place where they can create memories, find stability, and dream bigger for the future.
This cinder block home is a blessing in every sense. It marks the beginning of something new for Edwin and Lidia: a safe, dignified space where they can cook, live, and watch their son grow. It’s proof that even small acts of kindness can have a profound impact.
To the generous donors at ICF Homes of VA: thank you for being part of this story. Your compassion has turned hope into reality for a family whose lives will forever be changed.
A home is more than just walls and a roof—it’s a foundation for a brighter future. For Edwin, Lidia, and José, this is just the beginning.
